Happy New Year to everyone! There will be countless articles and videos regarding twenty ten. Everything from predictions to resolutions of what?s up for this year in business. I?m going to walk way out on a limb and start by saying I could care less about most business models for 2010. I do business like I?m living in the 50s — the 1950s, to be exact.
If you overlook the racism and, of course, the sexism, it was a golden era for business, at least here in America. It was a time when people actually knew who sold them products and provided them services. It was a time when people knew their banker by name and the banker knew them, their families and took a geniune, personal interest in who his customers were.
For me, this is not a huge thing. In fact, this is the way I?ve done business for the past 10 years ? actually, it?s the way I?ve always done business. And I?ll continue doing it that way. You can talk all day about how ?Social Media? has changed the game. The reality is that anyone who says that hasn?t been in the game of business for very long. If they have, it wasn?t a business they built themselves. In the end, it?s all about the people and customer service and a quality product. Read the rest of this entry »
On Tuesday Dec 1st I was in NYC shooting videos and attending a #140conf meet up. I had a great day hanging at the Roger Smith Hotel aka @RSHotel where I shot of a few of my videos. That night I was literally surrounded by a bevy of blondes and a few brunettes. As I looked around the room, the amount of women easily doubled the amount of men.
When you think of the top names in social media, a list of men come to mind easily. It?s harder to think of women who are dominant in this space. That being said women are more social and they outnumber the amount of men in the space. Collectively women are swarming in masses creating tsunami waves of influence. Read the rest of this entry »
Last month I spoke at a Cool Twitter Conference in Philadelphia. There are a ton of Twitter Conferences popping up. I like this one because it is most likely coming to a city near you. In the last year I believe it has hit 16 cities all over the world.
I spoke about taking your Twitter connections to the next level with some Q and A at the end. I hope you enjoy the talk and check out @bobfine who runs this conference. Also, follow the hash tag #CTC.
On the 14-15th of Dec I will be at Government25. I’ll be on a panel the second day. If you’re in DC and interested check it out. I also had the chance to finally meet Phil Baumann who also spoke at this conference in Philly. @PhilBaumann has awesome ideas and thought on social media and health care. If health care interests you and your involved in the social space I suggest checking out what he has to say.
What is your social media drug of choice? Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, Linkedin, Skype maybe Flickr? Let me know in the comments.
**(In the video I said ProBlogger I meant CopyBlogger– All bloggers look the same to me!) No Twitter. No open laptops. No flash photos. No wifi. No PROBLEM. Respect is what the Audience Conference said yes to. The way in which this event was put on and handled has inspired me to want to put on my own event. I want to live life and conduct business with the least amount of bullshit possible. The audience conference gave me the feeling that you can be real and do business.
The Audience conference will not be televised. At some point video from the event may be released in a slow manner, but some moments in the conference is not meant for the masses. If you’re looking for a take away thought from the event it’s this: In short if you’re not being yourself and telling your story then you suck. To make money and be happy while doing it, you have to leverage what works for you and build off of that.
@jeffpulver thank you for giving a voice to so many different people.
In the coming days, the videos from the talks will be released. Make sure you follow @140conf. You should definitely look for the videos of these other speakers from the event: @cc_Chapman, @porterVA, @adwal & @Bsimi, and @drew. You should follow them as well. They are all amazing. I will be tweeting links to the talks that I thought had value as well.
In short, the job @DevriesPR did at the #140conf in LA was awesome. For right now it looks like they cut down interviews and released snippets of them. These videos were going up through out the days of the event. Read the rest of this entry »
I was invited out to Oakland Ca by @AnnEvanston to speak about the power video for business. It was great speaking to women from EWN they were all eager to learn about video.
I think that the post on CenterNetworks via Allen Stern was good and had some awesome points. To the opposite spectrum you have the views of Gary Vaynerchuk who gave valid points as well. I just want balance. You need the tools like facebook and twitter to grow, but the first thing out of your mouth should ALWAYS be YOUR brand. Read the rest of this entry »
I will be at the 140conf, and I hope someone talks about tweeting with integrity. No one is perfect, yet at the very least we can be real. Read the rest of this entry »
